Land Acknowledgement
It is my honor and privilege to live in and work from unceded (never bought, sold or conquered) Secwepemcúl’ecw.
I came here with my daughter, invited to become family, in 2014. I am grateful everyday for the opportunity to interact with this land and these sacred waters and all the beauty herein that provide us nourishment, sustenance and joy.
I am thankful to the Secwepemc, whose DNA makes up this spectacular place and whose stories and songs echo from the mountains, for the thoughtful care that they have taken with this land since time immemorial. This land is so rich because of the good care they have taken, relating well with her and each other.
I acknowledge that the systems of colonization have damaged the land and waters and had traumatic, generational impacts on the original peoples here.
It is my commitment to this place to continue to learn and practice the good ways that this land teaches and to be helpful where I can be, taking care of myself and family, this land, waters and others to the best of my abilities operating in peace with the tools that I have.
It is also my commitment to learn about the original people and territory to where I visit and to reach out to Indigenous communities.
